Are we like aliens? A message about Xenoblade Chronicles X
April 4, 2016
Xenoblade Chronicles X tells the story of people who survive the destruction of earth by alien forces and in their escape crash land on an alien planet, becoming aliens themselves in a strange new world. We all have a sense of being aliens at some point in our lives, whether living among people who are different from us or being socially isolated. The Bible says that we are actually strangers to earth, like aliens who were meant for paradise but inhabit an imperfect, trouble-ridden world. Psalm 119:19 says "I live as an alien in the land" and 1 Peter 2:11 is part of a letter which addresses its readers as "strangers and aliens in the world." While those verses were probably not talking about aliens from outer space, they still resonate with the feeling that humanity does not fit in this world of pain and suffering, that like the survivors in Xenoblade Chronicles X we have a home somewhere else which we long for. That home is Heaven, and until we see it again we can do what the Xenoblade characters on an alien planet do (and I'm not talking about slaying monsters)--improve it to make it mimic our true home as best we can.
